The very first poem I wrote was inspired by my daughter, Asha Iman McAfee, whose radiant spirit lives in every part of this book. Through poems of loss, faith, resilience, and love, I offer pieces of myself and my experiences—before and after Hurricane Katrina, through spiritual seeking, and in honor of my ancestors and community.
These writings are meditations on survival, justice, and transformation. They are a tribute to those who came before me and a gift for those still finding their way. Whether you listen to one poem or one hundred, I hope you find something here that speaks to your spirit.
