This book introduces a political philosophy described as “Traditional Conservatism,” defined as the application of Christian moral principles to public governance. It examines patterns of social change in the United States and Canada and presents the argument that the abandonment of historically established moral and civic norms has contributed to societal decline.
Drawing on historical sources, including political speeches, court records, and government documents, the text presents the view that Christian principles were widely assumed to guide public institutions in North America until the mid-twentieth century. The book also incorporates contemporary social scientific research intended to demonstrate the relationship between Christian moral norms and measures of social well-being. Through historical analysis and empirical discussion, the work presents foundational arguments supporting the continued influence of Christian principles on law, public policy, and civic life in modern democratic societies.
