Good morning. Alaska. I'm Aaron Jolly. Six degrees outside right now, but here's the wild part. Alaska's temperature spread this morning? Seventy degrees. From the Interior's deep freeze to Southeast's almost-spring warmth. In the next 24 hours. Let's start where it hurts. The Interior woke up at minus 27 degrees. Wind chills hit minus 42. That's the kind of cold where your breath freezes mid-air. Sunshine today pushes you to 2 degrees by afternoon. Tonight, clouds roll in with snow showers developing. Friday brings the real action — 1 to 3 inches of snow likely, with highs climbing to 11 degrees. Southcentral starts at minus 5 under clear skies. Wind chills near minus 18 early. Clouds move in by mid-morning. And snow's possible after 9 A.M. You'll hit 17 degrees today. Friday looks snowier — 70 percent chance with 1 to 2 inches and highs jumping to 29 degrees. Now Southeast. Practically balmy. Snow showers early flip to rain by mid-morning as temperatures climb to 40 degrees. Friday brings heavy rain with highs near 44. That's 45 degrees warmer than the Interior's morning low. Two different planets. The alerts matter. A Blizzard Warning kicks in at 6 P.M. For Bristol Bay — 3 to 11 inches of snow, gusts to 40 miles an hour, whiteout conditions. The Western Kenai Peninsula gets a Winter Storm Warning starting at 11 P.M. — 5 to 10 inches with blowing snow killing visibility. Looking ahead. Friday and Saturday bring storms statewide. Then bitter cold returns early next week. The Interior could see minus 40 again by Tuesday morning. Spring equinox is two weeks away, but winter's not done with us yet. If you're in the Interior. That cold doesn't negotiate. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
