Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Massachusetts Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd. Folks, I'm not going to sugarcoat this. A monster nor'easter is barreling toward us. And by tonight, it turns into a full blown blizzard. Right now it's quiet. Enjoy these last few calm hours. Snow starts between 7 and 10 tonight. Light at first. Then it goes absolutely berserk. Snowfall rates hit 2 to 4 inches per hour overnight. The worst window is midnight through 8 A.M. Monday. Winds shift northeast and crank to 50 miles an hour inland. Out on the Cape and Islands? Gusts to 70 miles an hour. That's hurricane territory. Let's talk totals. Down in eastern Mass, you're staring at 1 to 2 feet. Three to 5 inches tonight, then another 11 to 17 inches Monday. Today's high hits 37 degrees, but Monday barely scrapes 33 with wind chills around 15. Coastal flooding is likely near the 1 A.M. High tide. Storm surge pushes water 2 to 3 feet above normal. Nantucket Harbor and parts of Cape Cod could see roads underwater. Push west toward Worcester and central Mass. You're looking at 15 to 23 inches total. Today tops out at 34 degrees. Monday? Just 29 with wind chills near 10. Whiteout conditions are real. Over in the Berkshires and western Mass, you'll see 8 to 16 inches. Highs today reach 36 degrees. Winds still gust to 55 miles an hour up in those hills. Travel will be nearly impossible overnight into Monday. Power outages are likely east of I-90. If you're in the Blizzard Warning zone, stay put. Looking beyond this beast, the storm clears Tuesday morning. Bitter cold settles in with lows near 10 to 14 degrees. Then a fast rebound. Wednesday climbs to the upper 30s. Thursday touches 40. A light snow or rain chance Wednesday night, but nothing like tonight. By Saturday, low 40s return. One bright spot. We gained nearly 3 minutes of daylight today. You'll need every second of it for shoveling. Charge your devices. Fill a thermos. Check on your neighbors tomorrow morning. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
