Asghar Wajahat, who has made a fresh start in Hindi with his travelogues, likes to fashion himself as a social tourist. He does not simply write dry, matter-of-fact descriptions of the places he visits; instead he tries to capture the cultural diversity and colours that life in those places offers. In this way, Ashghar Wajahat makes the listeners join him in these journeys.
In Ateet Ka Darwaza, he takes his listeners to the nomadic life in Jordan in Central Asia, the Marmaroash region of Romania-Hungary region in Europe, and in Mexico in South America. Apart from the nomadic life, three places also have a lot of historical and cultural significance attached; also, many archaeological ruins are found in these places.
Asghar Wajahat’s descriptions of the scenery, the people and his experiences are powerful, vivid and moving. Many travelogues play to our daydreams about travel, but very few can take such a brutally honest and philosophical look and bring to light truths that we don’t get easily.
