À propos de cette écoute
Whilst Christianity has traditionally been the predominant religion among African Caribbean people for centuries, there has consistently been a cohort among them who have chosen "African conscious" or "Black conscious" faiths, seeing these as attractive alternatives.
This study is aimed at gaining an understanding of lived experiences and social locations of formerly Christian or church-going participants from the African Caribbean diaspora living in the United Kingdom which may have contributed to converting to these faiths.
Drawing from interviews and a focus group, this book foregrounds the voices of those who have lived experiences of the themes of historical and ongoing racism, facilitating a conversation about the church and its past and future role. The book comes at a time when recent events in America and around the world have highlighted the problems of racialised systems internationally, and when the discussions must include all individuals, organisations, and institutions taking the time to ask themselves some vital questions as they work for change.
