Вий — мистическая повесть Николая Гоголя, впервые опубликованная в его сборнике "Миргород" (1835). Название повести — это имя славянского демонического существа мужского пола, с которым связан сюжет.

Оказавшись в доме ведьмы, семинарист-философ Хома Брут едва вырывается из ее рук и пытается забыть произошедшее, как страшный сон. Но ректор приказывает ему три дня читать молитвы у гроба умершей панночки, впоследствии оказавшейся той самой ведьмой, встретиться с которой Хома не собирался ни за какие коврижки.
