Thao Hà

Thao Ha is a Vietnamese refugee, writer, award-winning professor, filmmaker, and community advocate whose life and work explore belonging, displacement, justice, grief, and the stories we carry with us. She earned her doctorate in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and teaches at MiraCosta College, where her lived experiences inform her work with students and communities often overlooked by traditional institutions.Thao was an associate producer of Seadrift (2019), a documentary examining racial violence, refugee resettlement, and reconciliation in a Texas Gulf Coast community. She is the founder and executive director of Collective Freedom, board president of the Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association, and board chair of the Doan Foundation. Across her teaching, advocacy, and storytelling, Thao is guided by questions of what it means to belong, how we live with grief, and what we owe one another. Love Letters to the Dirty South is her debut memoir. She lives in Oceanside, California.
