Susan L. Katz

Susan L. Katz is an author, photographer, and psychotherapist whose work explores what shapes us, what connects us, and how we can change. Her debut novel-in-stories, Pole Dancers at the Red Barn, explores the emotional legacies passed between mothers and their adult children, and the ways people find belonging, connection, and transformation.

Katz has worked as a psychotherapist for more than four decades. Her background in psychology, social work, and photography informs her interest in looking beneath the surface of people’s lives—at the experiences, relationships, and choices that shape who we become. She has also taught photography and counseling and has pursued her own photography and writing projects throughout her career.
