Stephen Barrett

Stephen Barrett has always been fascinated by the schemes people come up with to defraud others. The spark came early, from Len Deighton's Only When I Larf (a novel about three confidence tricksters), but first a career in the conventional sense seemed the sensible thing to do.

That career lasted more than thirty-five years, in financial services in the UK, Germany and across Europe. He saw fraud from close up, more than once at his own expense, and learned that there is no limit to how creative it can get. Writing stayed a passion the whole time. It just had to wait.

It took a pandemic, and a long stretch of working from home, before he finally sat down to write his first proper book. Almost four years later, A Casual Temptation introduced Neil Wilson, a young man caught between loyalty and the law. A Lethal Investment and A Stable Coin followed and complete the Neil Wilson Financial Crime Series.

Stephen lives in Düsseldorf but spends as much time as possible in sunny Worthing, which is still very much his spiritual home. The ideas come the way they always have: amid the hubbub of Europe's financial centres, and then on a quiet walk with the dog along Worthing's promenade.
