Author Notes:

After making a personal commitment to the project, finding a starting point proved to be more difficult than I had imagined; it would take me decades to unravel the complexities of the story to the point where I could deliver it without scorn, trepidation, or judgment.

Initially, I was going to develop one book written from a singular person's viewpoint, hit the highlights, in and out, one and done. Because outside influences play an intricate part when making life decisions, I took particular interest in what was happening in the world around the characters during my six years of research.

Working on this project reinforced several thoughts that may sound out of place in a time when we are surrounded by an abundance of "self-care" messagining. First is that everyone has a backstory, and although not all of them can be seen as remarkable, they are stories non less, and their words are entitled to be included in the human lexican. The second thought that came to me is that we are our own protagonist.

The men and women in this serious are flowed, without a doubt. Yet, there is beauty in inperfection.

Author Bio:

Shelah is the recipient of 9 awards from The Society for Technical Communication and is also a published photographer and has produced and directed more than 40 lifestyle broadcast segments focused on eco and small space living. She directed, produced, and is the co-creator of the documentary series, Where Small Business Grows (Amazon Prime). Shelah lives a life of voluntary simplicity, where she makes a mid-century modern Airstream her home on an island in the Pacific Northwest and enjoys kayaking and traveling across the country and around the world.
