Who decides, and who pays the price if they’re wrong?

Roland Monsegu thinks modern politics has lost the ability to answer that question. In The End of Decision, he argues that the problem isn’t bad people or the wrong ideology. It’s design. Rules, processes and layers of oversight have built up until decisions seem to happen without anyone making them, and when things go wrong, no one is left to answer for it.

The book grew out of thirty years of travel through most of the world’s countries, moving between liberal democracies and dictatorships. In both, Roland found power that answered to no one, and people unhappy with the result. That puzzle is why he wrote the book.

It doesn’t offer a neat fix. It offers a direction, and an argument Roland hopes readers will take up, test and push back against. The French edition, Circulez, il n’y a rien à décider, is rewritten for French readers, with French examples.

Roland lives between Ireland and France, where he runs his own businesses.
