Robert Beatty

Robert Beatty is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq with the Ohio Army National Guard. Now a seasoned IT networking professional, Rob brings the same dedication, precision, and calm-under-fire mindset to both technology and storytelling. His debut novel Wayward Soldier is inspired by his real-world experiences, blending military realism with speculative science fiction to explore the moral complexities of occupation, loyalty, and survival.

From the Author:

I wrote Wayward Soldier: The Cost of Loyalty as a way to confront the memories I still carry from my time in Iraq. I served with the 211th Maintenance Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. This story isn’t a direct retelling – but the themes, emotions, and atmosphere are drawn from real moments I lived through, and from people who left a lasting impression.

The world of Va’korenn may be science fiction, but the heart of the story is about what happens after the headlines fade – when wars don’t end cleanly, when peace isn’t peace, and when soldiers are expected to keep carrying the weight. It’s about divided loyalties, uncertain missions, and the human cost of doing what seems like the right thing.

While some characters were inspired by composites of people I served alongside, their stories are fictional. What’s real is the pressure, the confusion, the dry gallows humor, and the stubborn hope that we carried forward day after day.

Writing this helped me make sense of what service leaves behind. If this book resonates with even one person – especially someone who’s served or struggled to make sense of what came after – then I’ll know it mattered.

Thank you for giving it your time.
