Ona Jo Ellan Bass

My love affair with words, books and stories began when I was old enough to meet my mother at the door with a stack of library books begging, "Read to me!" I began writing stories as soon as I understood how sentences and paragraphs worked -- the summer between first and second grade. My mother, although never published, wrote fantasy for children and interminable manuscripts for novels, so I had an in-house writer role-model.

I had the good fortune to have an excellent high school writing instructor, Ellen Gray Massey. She instilled the importance of correct spelling, good grammar and standard punctuation to properly season creativity. I honed my writing skills through story telling, reading and sharing picture books, novels and my own writing with my children.
