OK Kitsune

OK Kitsune is the fiction pseudonym for me, Dr Matt McLain (Haha!!), ex-D&T teacher, teacher educator and researcher at Liverpool John Moores University (aka LJMU). By day I am an academic and serious scholar of D&T education, curriculum and pedagogy, by night…

The name came from my first visit to Japan, in 2024, where I fell in love with Japanese culture and the Shinto Kami (local spirits). Kitsune are Japanese foxes, shapeshifting spirits reputed to be the servants of the god Inari, deity of industry, agriculture, general prosperity and worldly success, as well as foxes, fertility, rice, tea, and sake (quite relevant to a D&T educator!).

The kitsune were known to be mischievous tricksters, but neither good nor bad: mercurial, faithful, and playful servants of their master. So, an appropriate pseudonym for me, I think.

You can find our more about Matt’s research and scholarship on his university profile on the LJMU website (2543-matt-mclain)
