Kelly Lewis

Kelly Lewis is an author, attorney, public servant, and lifelong resident of the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania whose writing is shaped by history, public service, family, resilience, and a deep sense of place.

Born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania, Lewis has spent much of his life at the intersection of law, government, community, and storytelling. He earned both a law degree and an MBA and later served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2000 to 2004. His public career has also included extensive work in local government, civic development, community organizations, and regional initiatives designed to strengthen the communities of the Poconos.

Lewis has long been drawn to stories that explore the forces that shape people’s lives: family, history, ambition, hardship, love, loss, and the choices people make when confronted with difficult circumstances. His writing ranges from deeply personal reflections to historical and social themes, often grounded in real experiences and in the people and places that have influenced him over a lifetime.

His first major novel project, Rheingold: Born Fatima, grew out of his experience as a state representative when he was confronted by a grandmother trying to prevent her granddaughter from being subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM). Unknown to Lewis before that encounter, FGM continues to affect millions of girls each year. The project reflects his broader interest in using fiction and storytelling to explore serious social issues while staying focused on the humanity of the impacted individuals.

In recent years, Lewis has also written a series of personal stories, reflections, and poems inspired by family, friendships, relationships, memory, and the passage of time. These works are more intimate in nature and often look back on moments that seemed ordinary when they happened but took on deeper meaning years later.

Lewis’s perspective has also been shaped by significant health challenges, including a diagnosis of multiple myeloma and a stem-cell transplant. The experience sharpened his appreciation for time, family, friendship, purpose, and the importance of preserving stories that might otherwise be lost.

He remains actively involved in public service and community life in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where he has worked on local government, economic development, civic projects, youth sports initiatives, and community improvement efforts.

Whether writing about public life, history, personal relationships, or the unexpected turns of an individual life, Lewis brings to his work the perspective of someone who has spent decades serving people and communities and observing the institutions and choices that shape their lives.

He lives in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
