Why I Wrote This Story – A Note from G. Valerian
Stories have always been my way of connecting with the past—and it all began with my father. He encouraged me to read from a young age, and I fell in love with the written word through the magical realism of Gabriel García Márquez and the psychological depth of The Perfume by Patrick Süskind.
But it was when I discovered the works of Max Gallo, especially his novels on Caesar and Napoleon, that I felt history come alive. From there, I dove headfirst into the great empires of the past—Macedonia, Carthage, and especially Rome.
The Forgotten Legion Trilogy by Ben Kane pulled me into the grit and glory of the Roman Empire. And eventually, I found my favorite author: Santiago Posteguillo, whose storytelling made me feel like I was standing in the Forum, listening to the voices of power, resistance, and fate.
Echoes of the Eagle is my attempt to honor that inspiration and to offer readers a journey into a moment where personal destiny and imperial ambition collide. It’s not just a story about ancient times—it’s a story about what drives us, what we fight for, and what history remembers.
Thank you for reading. I hope this book speaks to you, as so many others once spoke to me.
