Carolyn McBride

Carolyn McBride writes contemporary women’s fiction in which the natural world is more than a backdrop. Drawing on her past as an editor and columnist for National Geographic Traveler, she weaves her deep love for travel and coastal ecology into her novels. Carolyn is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, holds a master’s degree in fiction writing from Lindenwood University, and serves as president of the Northern Virginia Writers Club, where she loves helping fellow writers find their voices. When the seasons change, she and her neuroscientist husband migrate between the shores of Virginia’s Occoquan River and South Florida’s vibrant Intracoastal Waterway, accompanied by a wildly spoiled boxer and a cat who rules them all.

A seasoned boater, Carolyn has always been drawn to the water, and Virginia’s historic Potomac River is the stunning backdrop for her Potomac Shores series. Like Carolyn, her characters are grandmothers, mothers, wives, daughters, friends, pet lovers...and boat captains. The first book in the series, The Cicada Spring, is a poignant and heartwarming novel for women who are ready to rewrite their own stories and discover the strength that lies within. Her holiday novella, Santa Overboard, is told through the eyes of a female boat captain as she restores her inner compass on a rollicking yet poignant cruise of second chances.
