Billy MacLeod MBE

Billy MacLeod MBE is a former Royal Engineer and the author of Through Their Eyes: The Weight of Silence and A Sapper’s Story: 1940 – Retreat to Dunkirk.

His writing explores the human experience of conflict, service, identity and the bonds formed between people facing difficult circumstances together. A Sapper’s Story draws on his understanding of Royal Engineers life to follow Donnie MacIver and the men of Two Section through the British Expeditionary Force’s 1940 campaign.

Billy combines careful historical research with the practical detail, humour and camaraderie of service life, keeping his focus firmly on the people behind military history.
