Almost 3,000 years after an extinction-level event on Earth, mankind seeks to regain its former glory, in a new world where magic and technology collide. Laney Herder, a commoner in the realm of Wexbury, finds herself thrust into the world of nobles and knights. At the side of her Lady Celeste, Knight of the Realm, she goes on an epic journey from being a simple chicken farmer to one of the greatest heroes of the realm, while helping the Lands of Sparo avoid a second Great Mage War.

Laney Herder and Lady Celeste are called upon by the Lupei of the Mountain Gypsies as their Soras to help free their leader who had been kidnapped, and to stop a war between the realms of Sparo and the Gypsies. Again, Laney is thrown into a world and politics that seem alien to her. She must follow her heart to do the right thing when all seems lost in a foreign land, when she stands against the swords of a nebulous enemy and the magic of one of the most powerful magic users of all time.

Laney and the other Templars are chosen to lead the peace envoy that travels to the mysterious land of the north, which has so much of the technology from the Great Wizards of the Before. The mission is put in peril when they learn who leads the Avalonian peace envoy.

As the aftermath of the war against Avalon settles and life in the lands of Sparo returns to a semblance of order, the matron of the library, Emily, also known lovingly as the Queen of the Scrolls, decides it is time for her to return home. It was revealed in the war that Emily possessed magic and had come from lands faraway to observe the people of Sparo and document their culture as the First Seeker of her Sect. Her homeland, New Cali, lay far to the south beyond the Fringe and out into the Uninhabitable Lands.

The habitable lands settle after the happenings in New Cali, and their people join Sparo as one of their newest realms. And Laney Herder has settled into her Great Mother role as the coruler of Sparo, accepting both her role in the world and herself as her abilities continue to grow along with her power.
