New Orleans PI "Red" Gammon has a very much unwanted knack for encountering the diabolical. When three high profile citizens of the Big Easy die under bizarre circumstances, all seemingly linked by a peculiar mark in the palm of their hands, Gammon follows the clues to a very peculiar casino run by the mysterious Mr. Moretti.

The 1940s - Big Easy PI Lee "Red" Gammon (The Devil's Dice, Midnight Fugue) is back and having a very bad day. A new client appears and asks him to recover an idol that she insists was stolen from her by a local antique dealer who seems to have no discernible past.

After leaving the service, Lee 'Red' Gammon sets himself up as a private eye in New Orleans. In less than two years, he's managed to make an enemy on the local police force and set up a network of eccentric if reasonably reliable informants. Chief among these is Masaka, who appears to be an Oriental girl in her twenties but may be something entirely else. She has an unsettling way of appearing and disappearing without notice, and bringing particularly odd cases to his attention. Cases he would rather do without. First, he had to prevent the summoning of a demon.
