Napoleonic Horseman

Robbie Macgregor is the bastard son of a French Aristocrat and a Scottish servant. Unwanted by his father and finding himself without wealth and power, he is still despised by the masses. Forced to join the French army to avoid the guillotine, his new career gives him chance to be reborn. As a Chasseur à Cheval and through action and heroism, Robbie is involved with the capture of the Dutch Fleet on the Texel and the conquest of Malta, catching the eye of a young French General, Napoleon Bonaparte, who is quickly rising to power.

Robbie MacGregor has a dilemma; he has followed his heart and served the country that his father loves, but when Napoleon Bonaparte uses him as a spy to betray his mother’s country he begins to have doubts. When he is accused of murder he is left with little choice; he leaves the French or dies at the hands of unscrupulous men who abuse their positions of power. The story shifts from the desert to the sea as Robbie has to flee for his life. He finds himself lost between two worlds and both see him as an enemy.

Robbie Matthews is now a captain in the 11th Light Dragoons. Despite the peace, he is soon sent to France to spy on Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion plans. Barely escaping with his life, he returns to England to discover that not all of the new officers he has to work with accept him. He fights prejudice and envy. When he and his squadron are sent to Hanover to help fight against the invading French, he has the chance to show his new comrades what a good cavalryman he is. The novel culminates in the rescue of British civilians from French prison camps.

Captain Matthews is turned into a double agent by Colonel Selkirk. He has to persuade Napoleon Bonaparte that he is still a loyal Frenchman. Following his return he fights against the French in the Naples campaign before meeting Sir Arthur Wellesley at the Battle of Copenhagen. A fast moving novel with both intrigue and battles. Set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, it covers the years 1804-1807.
