Detective Jonas Reiner Series

A Face I Don't Know Summary

A bullet to the head stole his past. Now, the only witness to a senator’s murder is the woman he’s forgotten. Detective Jonas Reiner woke up from an eight-year coma with a gap in his memory and a void where his life used to be. Back on the beat in the decaying, rust-belt heart of Lake Erie, he’s a man out of time, navigating a city of cold rain, industrial grime, and secrets that won't stay buried. When a 911 hang-up leads Jonas and his partner to the body of a murdered State Senator, the scene screams corporate execution. But the real discovery is found nearby: a woman bound in a shipping container.

Tessa Holloway is the only witness. She’s also Jonas’s ex-girlfriend. Tessa remembers the man Jonas was before the ricochet changed everything. Jonas doesn't remember her at all. As Tessa’s erratic, neurotic behavior pulls Jonas into a web of awkward banter and depressing truths, they realize the murder is just the tip of the iceberg. A powerful business tycoon owns the town, and he has a serial killer on a leash—a killer whose face is locked behind the wall of Jonas’s Traumatic Brain Injury. To save Tessa and stop a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of power, Jonas must go rogue and bridge the eight-year gap in his mind. In the shadow of the steel mills, some memories are worth killing for.
