When a man slips in a field where no boundary has ever been clearly marked, Thomas Hale begins asking questions. When a hidden parcel of forty-seven unsent letters is discovered inside an abandoned cottage in Bramleigh, investigator Thomas Hale is asked to determine what should be done with them. Written over eighteen years by the private and observant Dora Fenn, the letters reveal friendships, disappointments, and truths she chose never to share. As Hale traces the lives of the intended recipients, he uncovers a deeper question: why were the letters kept? Set in the quiet English countryside, What Was Kept is a thoughtful mystery about memory, friendship, and the consequences of choosing silence.
