One of our first strategies is simply crying to get fed or changed. From there, we evolve and create new strategies that protect us from what we fear and bring us closer to what we desire. The problem for many of us is that, once we solidify a strategy, we have trouble letting it go. While we hopefully learn that we can’t keep crying to get what we want, some changes are a little more challenging. How do we figure out which strategies continue to serve us and which ones are getting in our way?

When we hear people talk about being present, many of us remember raising our hands in elementary school in response to roll call. Paul, CFO of Gladsen Manufacturing, saw it pretty much the same way. He felt that being present at work simply meant he was in the room for one of many gatherings and slide show presentations. Overall, he thought of himself as a present dad, husband, and executive, but was he really? In an attempt to support his son’s theatrical ambitions, Paul takes an acting class and learns that presence is a whole lot more than he thought it was.

He makes his way through life convincing himself that his stories are true... that is until he meets with his daughter and learns about her favorite Journalism class.
