In this tale of "Menehune," we are introduced to Melvin, a young orphan with an eccentric appearance – his bald, oddly shaped and oversized head sets him apart and leaves him lonely and alone. Despite his physical differences, Melvin possesses an unyielding spirit and a heart brimming with curiosity. Life takes an unexpected turn when Melvin, while running for his life, finds himself aboard a seedy pirate ship. The captain of the ship, a grizzled seafarer with a hidden softness beneath his tough exterior, takes a liking to him.

Sarah and Maxine, two women from Gene's past, come back into his life and devote their lives to supporting his causes-long term care for Vietnam vets, supporting the indigenous women and keeping Hawaii Hawaiian.

Gene is tired and lost. The death of his latest flame, Marilyn, has strained and drained him. Ken, Marilyn's son, has now settled in Hawaii with his new love, Leilani.

Throughout his 34 years of working for Kong Mac, Wu had accumulated 800 pounds of gold, and had hidden it all throughout the Sierras. On the day the novel begins, May 5th, 1885, Wu has finally moved all of his gold stash to his hiding place in Castle Rock on Mount Diablo in northern California.

This sequel to Welcome to Vietnam, Macho Man digs deep into the mind of a Khe Sanh vet. The author, Ernest Spencer, opens up and shares with the world his life experiences from both before and after surviving the longest battle in the Vietnam War. How does wartime service change a person? Ernest shares his struggles with finding a place to fit back into the American Dream. Some, like the author, transition back into society very well in the eyes of the world, yet the demons deep inside are grappled with daily.

This is hands down the most heartbreaking and thought-provoking book about Khe Sanh and even the Vietnam War you will ever have the honor to explore. Other books are easier to understand, yet none of them will leave you a believer in the way that this book has. Seldom is the author so true to himself and the memory of those lost that he is willing to blind others with their own tears and shame rather than sacrifice what he knows to be the true story.
