Tim, Newt e Aaron sfuggono alla creatura aliena nei condotti di aerazione, mentre il comandante Brackett e i suoi uomini perlustrano gli edifici della colonia di Hadley's Hope nel tentativo di stanarla. I Marines riescono a uccidere uno dei mostri, ma scoprono che dalle sue ferite fuoriesce un potente acido. Intanto, i medici cercano di staccare le creature dalle teste delle loro vittime. La dottoressa Hidalgo, intanto, cerca di mettersi in salvo nel laboratorio di analisi.

Anne e Russ esplorano l'interno del relitto dell'astronave, in cui rinvengono tracce di uno scontro fra due diverse specie aliene. In una stiva, trovano stipate migliaia di uova. Una si schiude ed una creatura aliena attacca Russ. Alla colonia di Hadley's Hope, ricevuta la richiesta di aiuto di Anne, il comandante Brackett parte in missione di soccorso con una squadra di Marines. Russ è ricoverato nell'Area Medica insieme ad altri cercatori vittime degli alieni. Sotto gli occhi dei medici, qualcosa di incredibile accade al suo corpo.

A Hadley's Hope, il dottor Reese e il dottor Mori organizzano la squadra di ricognizione nella zona segnalata da Carter Burke. I cercatori prescelti per la missione sono Anne e Russ Jorden, che partono alla volta dell'Altopiano dell'Ilium accompagnati dai figli Tim e Newt e senza la scorta dei Marines. Arrivati sul posto, trovano il relitto di una misteriosa astronave aliena e si introducono al suo interno per esplorarla.

Alla commissione di inchiesta, Ripley riferisce della presenza di una forma di vita aliena estremamente aggressiva, rinvenuta sul relitto di un'astronave che si trova su Acheron ma non viene creduta. A Hadley's Hope, Brackett fa amicizia con Newt, la figlia di Anne, che gli racconta del Monster Maze, un gioco che fa con gli altri bambini nei condotti di aerazione. Intanto Carter Burke, direttore dei progetti speciali della Weyland-Yutani, manda una comunicazione urgente su Acheron con la richiesta di inviare una squadra di cercatori sull'Altipiano dell'Ilium.

Nella Gateway Station, il tenente Ellen Ripley, nel giorno in cui sta per essere dimessa dall'ospedale, scopre che sarà chiamata a rispondere della distruzione della sua nave, la Nostromo, davanti a una Commissione di Inchiesta. Intanto su Acheron, la missione di salvataggio della squadra di ricognizione si conclude drammaticamente.

A distanza di sei anni atterra sul pianeta anche Damien Brackett, il nuovo ufficiale comandante dei Marines Coloniali. Nel frattempo, una nave da recupero intercetta una navetta di salvataggio.

Il sergente Draper e il sergente Yousseff scortano due cercatori impegnati in una ricognizione, i fratelli Curtis e Otto. La squadra viene sorpresa da una violenta tempesta di sabbia ed è costretta a rifugiarsi nel Processore Atmosferico 6 dove Curtis, nel tentative di riparare un'avaria, si ferisce gravemente. L'ufficiale intanto si prepara per una missione di soccorso alla squadra in difficoltà.
