Silas isn’t the hero people sing about. He’s a sorcerer, though most people would not stand so close if they understood what that meant. Quiet hands. Quiet voice. Too much power held too tightly behind his ribs. For twenty-eight years, Silas has survived by keeping the door inside himself shut. That gets harder once the road starts calling. It begins with a bounty. Silas and his crew expect thieves, raiders, maybe a few bodies in the mud. They’ve handled worse. Ash is an archer with a ranger’s eye. Magnus is a warrior built for shield work and broken gates.
