The word Gospel means "good news", and this is just what the Apostle Mark shares with us in the second book of the New Testament. Mark tells us that Jesus has two natures: fully divine and fully man. Jesus was human with emotions, and yet he was also God in the flesh. But why did God need to become man? Why did he lower himself when he is the highest in the universe? Listen to the Gospel of Mark as he gives us the answers to these questions.

The Israelites have not been pursuing holiness as they should be. Rebellious and sinful, the people are in need of a savior. The prophet Malachi plays an important role in Israelite history. The prophet Nahum cries out to Nineveh, hoping they will turn from their wicked ways. They listened to Jonah the first time by repenting and turning to God, but will the powerful and proud Nineveh listen to the warnings of Nahum a century later? This story teaches us that even the strength of a powerful city cannot hold out against God's power.

The apostle Paul is imprisoned for Christ and yet he writes his most joy-filled letter yet. Writing to the church in Philippi, Paul gives countless pieces of encouragement.

Edom was at odds with Israel ever since its forefather Esau had struggled in the womb with his twin brother Jacob, the patriarch of Israel. After Edom played a role in the destruction of Jerusalem, the prophet Obadiah gives warning to the nation of their coming judgment, fulfilling God's promise from hundreds of years earlier: "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee." (Gen. 12:3)

While under the Babylonian rulers, Daniel and his three fellow Judeans are being challenged for their faith. In the middle of every trial, however, God always comes through. In the final chapters of this book, Daniel prophecies about the end times, including the “seventy weeks prophecy”.

There is an inseparable link between our faith and how we live our lives. While Paul paints a picture of what a healthy Church looks like, he also emphasizes the Gospel as the source of godliness: "...he saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness but according to his own mercy...."

Songs of Solomon emphasizes the holiness and beauty of marriage through the story of a bridegroom who is in love with his bride. It can also been seen as an illustration of Christ’s love for the Church. Listen to this love poem and get a taste of how marriage paints a perfect picture of the Gospel.

When all of the men in her family die, Ruth is left a widow, and her mother-in-law, Naomi, is left helpless. Ruth, a very loyal daughter-in-law, decides to stay with Naomi, hunting for food to help them survive. The widow unexpectedly meets a wealthy man named Boaz, who takes an interest in her. Could this man be God’s rescue plan for Ruth and Naomi?

The gospel is counterintuitive to humans. We are used to earning almost everything in our lives. In the book of Romans, Paul makes it clear that we cannot earn our way to God, in fact, even the “good” deeds we do are like filthy rags before the Lord. Listen to Paul as he teaches us that we are more sinful than we could every imagine, but also more loved than we could ever imagine.

The last book of the Bible portrays God’s total redemption. Heaven will come down to Earth, and the power of sin will finally be overcome. Revelation makes it clear that the material world will be restored completely, and God’s people will live in a new world based on love, justice, and peace. Believers will reign forever in perfect communion and fellowship with the Lord himself. Listen to John’s revelation, and receive a foretaste of the day when God will “wipe away all tears”.

When God led His people out of Egypt, His work in their lives was not complete. God had a plan to transform His people to be recognized as distinctively His. The Israelites were called to be set apart and to be holy, but living a life of holiness is no walk in the park. Follow the Israelites as they strive to live apart from sin by following a daunting list of regulations and laws.

While there is suffering, evil, sickness, and death in this world, the book of Joel reminds us that we have an everlasting hope through it all. Joel warns the people of Judah as a horrifying locust plague has come upon them. He urges the people to repent and return to God, predicting that this is just the beginning of their judgment. Thankfully, Joel’s prophecies do not end there. He continues to teach the people about the promise of hope that lies ahead in the kingdom of the Messiah. Listen as this prophet describes the day of salvation which we are privileged to live in now.

The second book of Samuel paints a portrait of Israel's greatest king. King David had many military triumphs and was richly blessed by God. Despite this, even David was prone to fall into temptation. In this book we can grow in knowledge of sin and its consequences. More importantly we can better understand how our merciful God still wants to use us in his redemption plan.

Idolatry, rebellion, disobedience, pride. Second Kings illustrates the collapse of a divided nation that turned its back on God. This, however, does not change the fact that God is faithful. Like any good father, he does not allow his children's sinfulness to carry on without discipline.
