Romans is the first of the epistles to be penned by the Apostle Paul. As its name suggests, it was written directly to the newly founded Christian church in Rome, which was struggling to uphold the beliefs and morals of Christianity. In this book, Paul clearly lays out the doctrine of Christianity and gives illuminating instructions on how to live righteously in the midst of sin.

The last of the Gospels, the book of John was written by the disciple John the Beloved. This Gospel emphasises the undeniable truth that Jesus was the Son of God and demonstrates the need for this belief in order to be saved. John includes many miracles performed by Jesus throughout his life as proof of his divinity. As the disciple whom Jesus loved, John also inspires a deep love of God through his writing and encourages a closer relationship with him.

The Gospel of Luke was not written by one of Jesus' disciples but rather by a physician by the same name. Due to his profession, Luke has a distinctly human aspect to his writing, which contains greater details of the people whom Jesus interacted with, particularly the sinners. Jesus' entire life is depicted in these passages and portrays the Messiah not as an untouchable figure of greatness but as the more attainable and relatable Son of Man.

The Gospel of Mark focuses on the adult life of Jesus during his ministry up to his death and resurrection. As the shortest of the Gospels, Mark emphasises the briefness of Jesus' life and the ever-present recognition that his time on Earth was both to serve mankind and to give the ultimate sacrifice of his death.
