Marty Mann The first woman to get sober in Alcoholics Anonymous tells her story in a 1968 talk at San Francisco, CA. This is the best example of Marty Mann recovery story I have heard. The sound quality is very good, which is unusual for a 1968 AA recording. Great audiobook about recovery - historic and enjoyable. Marty was the first woman to achieve lasting sobriety in AA, founder of National Council on Alcoholism, author of at least two books on alcoholism, author of AA's The Big Book story "Women Suffer, Too", and co-founder of The AA Grapevine.

Marty tells the short version of her recovery story. This is followed by a codependency story. Before crossing the line into alcoholism, she was married to an out of control alcoholic.

A guy was talking about lifeguarding and that caught my attention because I spent years lifeguarding. I mean, that's how I worked my way through school. It was as a lifeguard. And he said, when you're being trained as a lifeguard. You never, ever get into the deep water if there is a struggling victim.

This talk is very general, and is relevant to all sorts of addictions. As a recovery speaker, Bob Earll was sort of a Swiss Army knife. His message fit Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as Adult Children of Alcoholics. Though an Alcoholic, the drug addiction part of his alcoholism enabled him to speak to Narcotics Anonymous. This talk is at a Cocaine Anonymous event, and his opiate use would have qualified him to speak to Heroin Anonymous.

Wynn Laws is the author of the Big Book Story: Freedom from Bondage, 4th Edition on Page 544. This recording is very much in the spirit of her story in Big Book, but much more, she gives more detail and tells other stories about sobriety. She talks about her institutional work. Wynn pioneered work in California women's prisons. At the time of this talk (1973), her mother is living with her. Her mother is the person she had the difficulty removing resentment against. At the time of talk, they were happily living together.

Mary Pearl T Understanding and Applying the 12 Steps of Alanon features funny stories about becoming honest about harms done resisting, making amends, and then enjoying relief when you do. She talks about her gradual spiritual awakening as she grows in Alanon.

This is recovery in Alanon. Mary Pearl T is a hoot with a powerful recovery message. She tells lots of great stories showing how alcoholism in others made her very ill. How she got well in Alanon. How she repaired her relationship with her mother by making amends. Some stories about getting active in Alanon service and sponsorship. This is a very high quality recovery message. Enjoyable, funny, and very helpful.

A good retreat for someone needing to not take themselves too seriously. Has some very humorous parts. Enjoying the quirks, hang ups, and nutty things people, including ourselves, do that irritate us.

In his plain spoken way, Father Martin tells it like it is about relapse. What relapse is, and what it is not. He talks hurtful unkind attitudes towards relapse and members coming back that are not helpful. How to prevent it happening to you, and what to do if it does.

A topic talk about emotions, alcoholism, and recovery. Emotions are a thing we all have most of and know little about. I'm going to talk not about love but the negative feelings; my message on them is a simple one: Handle them or they will handle you. Use an Alanon or Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor; don't keep your problems to yourself, they get bigger when you do that. What we focus on gets bigger, focus on negativity and unhappiness grows; focus on the good and beautiful in this world and happiness grows.
