For 20 years, Lisa Murphy, Jeff Murphy, and a group of volunteers traveled the world with the Mobility Project, delivering mobility to the poorest people on the planet. They helped tens of thousands of disabled poor to gain mobility and hope. The disabled received wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches from the United States, items they never would have been able to afford. Like Simon of Cyrene, we helped people carry their cross of disability. From the hot tropical jungles of Costa Rica, Thailand, and São Tomé to the deserts of Afghanistan, the disabled poor got a new chance at life.

I realized, at age 70, that I had no memory of being inside my home, where I grew up, or ever being inside a school classroom. I began to write then, and have continued over the last 24 years, as one painful memory after another was slowly revealed. Recently I figured out what had happened to my mother, and therefore to me. Two more major insights totally freed me. I could then finish Missing Pieces.

In 2012, combat engineer Curtis McGrath was serving in the Australian army in Afghanistan when, in the line of duty, he stepped on a mine.
