There's nothing more to say. My escalating feud with my family and my need for sweet revenge leaves a single course of action. Kill the leader of the Family, the legendary, all-powerful Manticore. He's one of the most guarded men in New Angeles, but I have a plan. Too bad it's the craziest, most irrational plan ever, but it's all I have.

New Angeles, 2050. I’ve committed the ultimate sin. Disobeying my Family. For my punishment, they sent their assassins, the daevs, after us. We’re forced into hiding. However, that’s hard when someone’s turned everyone into zombies. The appearance of both can’t be a coincidence. What’s the Family up to now, throwing the city into chaos?

Welcome to 2050. I’m Rachel, and there’s a monster inside me that makes me a perfect assassin. Like everyone else, I’m indentured to a Family. I do their dirty work. Someone’s pet geneticist toyed with my sister, and now she’s not human either. When I find them, they’re going to make her right, and then I’m going to tear them apart. Tania’s the only real family I have. Killing whoever gets in my way is the easy part; enlisting my ex-lover’s help - not so much. I don’t have time to dredge up those old emotions.

The year 2050: post-collapse. Despite my growing distrust for Deirdre, here I am, still doing my family's dirty work. Capture a billionaire's daughter - alive. They neglect to tell me one small detail - that like me, she's not human. The mission goes south from minute one and then come the lies. Just when I realize there's much more at stake than the freedom of an aristo's daughter, the family kidnaps my sister and holds her hostage!
