What is Cymatics?

Touch a bow to a metal plate covered in sand, and the sand leaps into a perfect geometric shape. Change the note — it reorganizes instantly, precisely, every time. This is cymatics: the physics of what vibration looks like when it meets matter. This episode traces the story from Ernst Chladni's 1780s sound plates to Hans Jenny's groundbreaking mid-century experiments with water, powder, and the human voice — then follows the idea as it drifted from hard physics into 1960s alternative medicine claims that were never clinically validated. Along the way: standing waves, nodes and antinodes, why your cochlea is running its own tiny cymatic experiment right now, and why "in the beginning was the word" might be less metaphor than description.
