Have you ever checked your sleep score in the morning, seen that you apparently slept well, and wondered why you still feel exhausted?
We’re tracking more about our health than ever. Our steps, sleep, protein, fibre, walking pace, cardio fitness… There’s a number for almost everything.
But are all those numbers actually helping us feel better?
I walk my dog every day, and believe me, it’s not exactly a steady-paced walk. We walk, we stop to sniff something, we walk again, and we stop again. Yet my watch still gives me information about my walking pace and fitness.
It’s a good reminder that these devices can be useful, but they don’t always tell the whole story.
In this episode of Just Take This, I’m talking about the difference between tracking your health and actually paying attention to your body.
We’ll explore interoception (your ability to sense what’s happening inside your body), why we sometimes ignore signals like hunger, fatigue and discomfort, and why noticing a symptom isn’t the same as understanding what’s causing it.
And how to start paying attention to what your body is telling you without turning your health into another full-time job.
Your body isn’t a spreadsheet. And a better score doesn’t always mean you’re feeling better.
