In early 1886, a 46-year-old bookkeeper walked twelve miles through the Scottish Highlands to buy a set of second-hand distilling equipment. He paid a little under one hundred and twenty pounds. That walk is where Glenfiddich, Grant's, and one of the last great family-owned whisky houses in Scotland all begin.
