Institutions rarely abandon their standards all at once. More often, they lose them gradually. A rule is overlooked. A boundary is relaxed. An exception is made for a particular circumstance, person, or relationship. Each decision may seem insignificant on its own, but over time, the accumulation begins to change what the institution considers acceptable.
This is how non-negotiables become negotiable.
This episode examines how institutions lose their standards, how inconsistent enforcement erodes discipline and credibility, and why leaders must be willing to restore expectations even when doing so is uncomfortable.
Because standards do more than define what an institution expects. They reveal what an institution is prepared to protect.
A standard that is enforced only when convenient is no longer a standard.
