Armed with hammers and a spear gun concealed inside a guitar case, the attacker severely injured all three pilots. Despite suffering devastating injuries, including fractured skulls and paralysis, the crew refused to surrender control of their aircraft.
With the cockpit transformed into a desperate battlefield, the pilots used the enormous DC-10 itself as their weapon. They performed extreme maneuvers designed to disorient their attacker while fighting through their own injuries and physical limitations.
Through extraordinary teamwork, determination, and tactical precision, the crew eventually managed to overpower the attacker and regain control. They then faced another enormous challenge: bringing the heavily damaged and significantly overweight aircraft safely back to the ground.
The pilots survived, but the injuries they sustained permanently ended their careers in the cockpit. The attacker was later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Flight 705 remains a remarkable story of courage under unimaginable circumstances—a testament to three aviators who, despite being severely injured and facing an attacker intent on destroying the aircraft, fought to save everyone on board.
