  • The Chair on the East Bank: Why Kent Came Back Missing
    21 Oct 2026
The Chair on the East Bank: Why Kent Came Back Missing

A dry folding chair and a flannel shirt sat on the east bank of the Mace River in a photo taken at 7:14 AM - both completely dry though the only access required wading through 43-degree, chest-deep water. That photograph drove four agencies and 41 searchers across 11 square miles and produced a DNA profile with no match; how did Kent vanish from a place with no wet footprints and no witnesses?

In this episode, we tell the sequence of events from the dawn Kent Sharp and his fishing partner arrived at the Elbow to the photograph that became the central mystery, following the search operations, the evidence found, and the unanswered question about the dry chair and shirt.

    Person: Kent Sharp
    Person: Dave Kroll
    Date: January 8-9, 2025
Location: The Elbow on the Mace River, Harwick County
    Search-and-rescue: 41 personnel

    - Kent Sharp had been missing for 31 hours when the photograph was taken at 7:14 AM on January 9.
    - The Mace River at the Elbow ran at 43 degrees and the only safe crossing was a riffle 200 yards upstream about 18 inches deep.
    - Two folding chairs were confirmed at the site; Nancy Kroll reported Dave brought two red folding chairs the night before.
    - Four agencies and 41 search-and-rescue personnel conducted six days of wilderness operations across 11 square miles.
    - Frame 47 from Sherry Thompson’s camera showed a red camp chair with a flannel shirt draped over it, both notably dry despite the wet crossing required.

  • Handprints on the Gravel: How Two Hikers Vanished and Returned
    20 Oct 2026
Handprints on the Gravel: How Two Hikers Vanished and Returned

A fourteen-year-old found two fresh, child-sized handprints pressed deep into mud at the edge of a gravel bar with no footprints to or from them - the only physical trace connected to a missing 62-year-old and his seven-year-old granddaughter. How could handprints appear where no one could have walked, and what did rescuers miss in the ravine upstream?

In this episode, we lay out the documented record of the Ridgeback National Forest search-and-rescue operation, following the timeline from the Voss Road trailhead register to the discovery that changed everything; can the physical evidence and witness statements explain their disappearance and return?

    Person: Eugene Williams
    Person: Lily Williams
    Date: December 3-23
Location: Tenner Creek corridor, Ridgeback National Forest
    Event: Search-and-rescue operation

    - Gail Hansen, age 14, found two child-sized handprints in the mud at Holbert bridge at 6:40 AM on December 4.
    - Eugene Williams, age 62, signed the Voss Road trailhead register with Lily at 11:47 AM on December 3.
    - A pair of birders tested Shelf Run ice at about 10:00 AM and found it solid; Eugene and Lily reached the same spot around 2:00 PM.
    - A hydrologist identified a thermal spring about 60 feet upstream that had been undermining the ice beneath Shelf Run.
    - A child's purple rubber boot, size five, was found standing upright in four inches of water at the Voss Road crossing during the night search.

  • She Walked In, Her Car Stayed: The 57-Hour Wilderness Mystery
    19 Oct 2026
She Walked In, Her Car Stayed: The 57-Hour Wilderness Mystery

A bright teal women's running shoe, size seven, laces tied and lace-lock engaged, was found half-buried in snow at 9,400 feet-deliberately placed and frozen with a sock inside. How did twenty-four-year-old Megan Bennett vanish from a trailhead with her car, phone, wallet, and keys locked inside, leaving only a single shoe to point to a 57-hour window nobody can explain?

In this episode, we trace the twelve days from Megan's last known movements to the discovery on a Forest Service switchback and follow the official search efforts, the trail-camera footage, and the baffling scent breaks at a stream crossing-what could have happened in that 57-hour gap?

    Person: Megan Bennett
    Date: November 10-19, 2016
Location: Ridgeback Creek Trailhead and 9,400-foot Forest Service switchback in Broken Bow National Forest
Status: Missing when her car was found; shoe discovered on November 19, 2016
Case: 57-hour unexplained window between trailhead footage and later discovery

    - Megan left home at her routine time, 5:15 PM on November 10, 2016, and was captured on trail camera at 5:51 PM walking calmly toward the creek with a headlamp on.
    - Her gray 2011 Subaru Forester was parked at Ridgeback Creek Trailhead nine miles from her house with her phone on the passenger seat and wallet and keys in the center console.
    - The trail crossing where search dogs lost scent involved eighteen inches of moving water over smooth rock and a confluence of channels that suppress scent.
    - Search efforts included four ground teams, multiple dog teams, helicopters, a fixed-wing infrared aircraft with two night passes, and a cadaver dog; no definitive finds during the initial week.
    - On November 19, 2016 at 7:43 AM, road-grader operator Sandra Wallace found a size-seven teal running shoe half-buried in snow at 9,400 feet with the lace-lock fully engaged and a frozen sock inside.
