  • Can introverts really work in virtual teams?
    5 Oct 2026

I am going to start this with a confession – I am, in several ways, an Introvert. This may come as a shock to some who know me, but functionally I am very much an introvert. I get tired quickly when I spend time around people and need peace to recharge and recover, I also like to have time to myself during the work day. Unlike many of my extrovert friends and colleagues, I am not always comfortable picking up the phone to ring people either. That said, my introversion is relatively small and balanced by me being comfortable speaking to large groups – hence things like podcasts – similarly I am comfortable with media engagement and many of the other things that terrify others and equally terrified a younger version of me. Introverts and extroverts come in all shapes and sizes, there are the extremes of both scales, people who are highly introverted will on occasion struggle to engage in even simple one on one conversations and anything larger can induce a sense of panic and fatigue. Similarly extreme extroverts can rely so much on external stimulation to charge their batteries they end up draining everyone else around them. […]

  • Back after an extended break – what have we learned?
    19 Sep 2026

Several years now after the enforced remote and virtual team work of the COVID years and returning to the podcast after a few years break I want to think about what we have learned. Are we better than we were before or are we just doing remote work more. All in all I believe things have drifted back to more or less where we were before COVID, yes, we are talking on Teams and Zoom more than we were on the virtual platforms available before COVID, BUT, we still have not really embedded the value of remote work into our workflows. Teams are still encouraged to work colocated, travel is if anything even harder to get approved, and remote work is seen as much as a lifestyle enabler, which is wonderful, as it is a way to improve the overall outcomes in workplaces and projects. Now that I am back at least, I will try to dig a bit deeper into some of the ways the workplace continues to evolve in future episodes of the podcast.

  • Working from home during corona virus part 11 – Boundaries
    25 Apr 2020
In this episode I consider the need to establish some boundaries in your work from home workplace and how and how frequently we communicate with colleagues. This would include finding a place at home to establish your workplace, how you dress for working from home, putting some sensible boundaries around your time spent working from home and managing the volume of video and phone meetings we are all seeing a surge in.
