    • Ep. 44 – The Murder of Betty Gore | The Affair, The Axe, and Forty-One Strikes
      Feb 16 2026

      Send a text

On June 13, 1980, in the quiet town of Wylie, Texas, a friendship ended in violence.

Betty Gore — a young mother of two — was found brutally killed in her own utility room. She had been struck forty-one times with an axe.

The woman who admitted to the killing wasn’t a stranger.

It was her close friend, Candy Montgomery.

What began as a secret affair between Candy and Betty’s husband unfolded into one of the most shocking self-defense trials in true crime history. Candy claimed Betty attacked first — and that a single word, “shhh,” triggered a dissociative break rooted in childhood trauma.

      A jury agreed.

In Episode 44 of Veil of Echoes, we examine the friendship, the betrayal, the confrontation inside that narrow utility room — and the verdict that still divides people decades later.

At what point does self-defense become something else?

    • Ep. 43 – The Casper Mountain Crawler: Watched in the Wyoming Woods
      Feb 16 2026

      Send a text

Casper Mountain sits just minutes outside of Casper, Wyoming — a place known for hiking trails, ski runs, and quiet forest overlooks.

      But after dark, something changes.

For years, hikers and campers have reported the same disturbing pattern:

      • A tall, pale figure watching from the trees
      • Footsteps that stop when they stop
      • A presence that mirrors their movement
      • And in some cases… a voice calling their name

In this episode of Veil of Echoes, we explore the legend of the Casper Mountain Crawler — a humanoid entity described as unnaturally thin, unnervingly silent, and disturbingly patient.

Is it wildlife misidentified in low light?
      Internet folklore shaping perception?
Or something far older that doesn’t want to be seen?

Because sometimes the most terrifying encounters aren’t violent.

      They’re observant.

      🎧 Listener discretion advised.
