  • I Know. I Shot My Wife
    14 Oct 2026

This episode begins with one of the strangest murder stories to ever pass through the offices of the Turlock Daily Journal. In 1934, Clarence DeMoss shot his wife, Mabel, near Hilmar, then made his way to Turlock and calmly confessed to newspapermen: “I know. I shot my wife.” What followed was a bizarre newsroom confession, a phone call to the hospital, a murder trial involving his own children, and eventually the gallows at San Quentin.

Then, Turlock Unburied introduces a new recurring series: The Hauntings of North Turlock. In “I Remember You,” a family living in an ordinary modern home begins experiencing unexplained disturbances — scattered laundry, a shadow figure watching from a child’s bedroom, flickering lights, and a terrifying electrical failure. When amateur investigators bring in a spirit box, the answers seem to point back to a Ouija board encounter from decades earlier.

Two very different stories. One buried in Turlock’s past. One disturbingly close to the present.

  • Echoes of the Occult: The Spiritualist Years
    30 Sep 2026

Turlock has long been known as a town of churches—but its spiritual history has always had a stranger side.

In the first installment of Echoes of the Occult, we dig into the early years of Spiritualism, mysticism and the supernatural in Turlock and the surrounding valley. From mediums and clairvoyants to mind readers, traveling mystics and performers who promised audiences a glimpse beyond the veil, the old newspapers reveal a world that existed alongside the Valley's more familiar religious traditions.

Then, in the second half of the episode, we travel to Merced in 1920 for The Desecration at Merced Cemetery—a bizarre nighttime disturbance that left monuments toppled, grave markers moved, and a marble statue of a child standing over a stranger's grave with a flowerpot placed upon its head.

    Who—or what—was responsible?

Turlock Unburied: Echoes of the Occult — The Spiritualist Years, followed by The Desecration at Merced Cemetery.

    History gets stranger after dark.

  • The Wind & the Lingering Spirit
    27 May 2026

In January of 1980, a rare tornado tore directly through Turlock, leaving behind twisted metal, shattered homes, destroyed businesses, and a town struggling to understand what had just happened. For twelve terrifying minutes, the funnel carved a path across the city — from open fields near Linwood Avenue to neighborhoods and industrial blocks near South Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. Residents described roofs lifting into the sky, walls collapsing inward, and a sound many would never forget.

In this episode of Turlock Unburied, we revisit the day the storm came to town through archival newspaper accounts, eyewitness memories, and haunting photographs taken in the aftermath.

Then, in the second half of the episode, we travel to an old house on West Main Street where strange events were said to follow the death of a young boy. Family members claimed they heard footsteps, movement in empty rooms, and the unmistakable feeling that someone — or something — remained behind long after the funeral was over.

One story is rooted in documented history.
The other lives in whispers and memory.
Both left scars on Turlock that never fully disappeared.
