  • Mark 13 - The Days of Vengeance & Vindication
    25 Oct 2026
In the Olivet Discourse, Jesus foretells the destruction of the Temple—“not one stone left upon another”—as the days of vengeance against unfaithful Israel and the vindication of the Son. The “birth pangs” (false christs, wars, earthquakes, famines, persecutions, and more) would precede the fall, yet “the end is not yet.” The urgent sign is the abomination of desolation: when Roman armies approach Jerusalem, flee rather than join the revolt. All of this was fulfilled in the Jewish War and the burning of the Temple in AD 70.

The cataclysmic imagery of the Son of Man coming on the clouds points not to the end of the world but to the end of the old order. Drawing on Daniel 7, Jesus depicts the Son coming to the Father to receive His kingdom. After Jerusalem’s judgment, His messengers go forth and His reign is established—all within that generation. We are therefore called to watchful faithfulness, for judgment begins in the house of God and Jesus walks among His churches.

  • Mark 11:27–12:40 - Fruitless Bible Study
    18 Oct 2026
In Mark 11:27–12:40, Jesus confronts the Jewish leaders in the temple and exposes their fruitless study of Scripture. Entrusted with the oracles of God, the Sanhedrin, Pharisees, Sadducees, and scribes rejected Christ—the Cornerstone—and therefore could not rightly understand or apply the Word. He silences them on John’s baptism, the image of God, the resurrection, and the greatest commandments (love the Lord your God and love your neighbor), showing they know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. Post-Christian Judaism is Christianity without Christ, the Law without the Spirit, and the Temple without the Cornerstone—yet hope remains for those who turn from their sin and embrace the Son of David.

  • Mark 11:1–26 - The Fruitless Fig Tree
    11 Oct 2026
In Mark 11:1–26, Jesus curses a leafy but fruitless fig tree in an enacted parable. The fig tree stands for the Temple and its authorities. He arrives in Jerusalem as the promised King and Son of David—approaching from the Mount of Olives, riding a donkey’s colt, and welcomed by the shouting multitude (Zechariah 9 and 14). The outward signs of messianic hope are present, yet He finds only a show of religion rather than the fruit of genuine righteousness and worship.

When He enters the Temple a second time, He discovers not merely emptiness but active wickedness: the house of prayer for all nations has become a place of exploitation. Overturning the tables, Jesus confronts the unholy commerce and declares that the Temple belongs to the Lord, who desires fruit from both Jews and God-fearing Gentiles.

The withered fig tree becomes the occasion for teaching on prayer and forgiveness. Mountains symbolize powers and kingdoms; faithful prayer, rooted in trust that God sits on His throne and will subdue all things to Christ, can level what stands against His reign. Yet such prayer is powerless if it rises from an unforgiving heart. Jesus denounces the Temple’s corruption while still weeping over its people and ultimately shedding His blood to rescue them.

As the true Temple, God’s people are warned not to repeat the same barren show of religion. We are called to bear the fruit of Christ by the Spirit, to pray against the enemies of His kingdom, and to forgive our own enemies.
