  • Time Travel to the Viking Age
    11 Oct 2026

Step through the Archive’s blue portal onto a frozen wooden jetty in Birka, the busiest Viking trading town of the north, in the deep winter of around AD 900. Ships sit locked in the ice, smoke rises from rows of turf-roofed houses, and children glide across the frozen lake on skates carved from bone. Your guide is Eyvind, a gentle grey-bearded comb-maker who saws elk antler into combs so fine their teeth are cut with a blade as thin as a hair. While digging a new hearth in his workshop, he found an old comb buried in the dark earth, more beautiful than anything he has ever made and carved with a pattern he doesn’t recognize. He’d like to return it to whoever made it, one craftsman to another. Tonight the northern lights are out, and under their glow, Birka remembers: whenever the green ribbons brighten, the town around you shimmers into one of its own earlier winters, and the brighter the sky, the further back you go. Together you share honey bread by the fire, wander the winter market among furs, amber and silver from distant lands, and finally skate out onto the open ice to wait for the brightest light of the night. There you may find the hands that carved the comb a hundred winters before. Nothing chases you through the snow tonight, only green light, warm hearths and the quiet sound of bone skates on ice. It’s a calm, richly researched sleep story about craft, memory and a town built on its own gentle past, ending with a slow glide home and a long, peaceful winter’s night.

  • Time Travel to the First Halloween
    9 Oct 2026

Step through the Archive's blue portal into a misty autumn evening in Ireland's Boyne Valley, around the year 780. It's Samhain, the old night when summer ends, cattle come down from the hills and fires glow on the ridges. Long before carved pumpkins and costumes, this was the night people believed the ancient mounds stood open and the line between one year and the next grew thin. Tonight that old belief is quietly true. Every doorway you step through opens onto the same place on a different Samhain: west-facing doors lead back into years gone by, east-facing doors lead ahead into years to come, and the deeper you step, the further you go. Your guide is Úna, a herder bringing her family's cattle home to their farm behind its earthen bank. Her little son has asked her a question she can't answer: when he's an old man, will anyone still keep Samhain? Together you churn butter and warm oatcakes by the hearth, follow the dark river path beneath the stars, and come to the Brú, a great green mound ringed with carved spiral stones that was already thousands of years old in Úna's time. Its doorway faces the midwinter sunrise, and so it opens forward. Step by step you watch the old festival grow: monks gathering apples on the eve of All Hallows, families roasting hazelnuts by the fire, and at last a cottage window glowing with turnip lanterns and children's laughter. Nothing frightening waits in the dark tonight, only lantern light, apples and a custom carried lovingly from one generation to the next. It's a cozy, richly researched sleep story about how an ancient harvest night slowly became Halloween, ending with a gentle walk home and a long, peaceful autumn night.
