Three Questions, Three Drinks is a podcast for the inquisitive, for those who know there is still so much to know, and that the best way to learn is by asking great questions and seeking first to understand. Join me – Chris Mikolay – and my rotating group of brilliant and funny and opinionated friends as we pour a few drinks and dive headfirst into life’s most important, most absurd and most thought-provoking questions. We’ll either solve all the world’s problems, or we’ll get stuck arguing whether cereal is a soup. From the provocative to the profound, Three Questions, Three Drinks is a podcast that gets more interesting with every sip, and it will prove that there is still room for civil debate and altering your world view, even if it requires a little liquid courage. Cheers!Copyright Chris Mikolay Alimentation et vin Art Cuisine Politique et gouvernement Sciences sociales

  • Ep. 98 - Capitalism is Awesome vs. Um, No It's Not
    Sep 22 2026
CAPITALISM! In what may go down as the most contentious recording in 3Q3D history, Chris channels his inner 1980s corporate raider to defend free markets while Amanda says, “pump the brakes, Gordon Gekko”. Sipping on three distinct drinks, including a Wall Street staple and a homemade experiment featuring decades-old Canadian Club, Amanda, Matt and Chris debate whether capitalism did indeed lift billions from poverty…or merely fueled an Amazon Prime themed fever dream. Whether you’re an Alex P. Keaton wannabe or think billionaires shouldn’t exist, you don’t want to miss this spirited economic showdown.
    DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:
MANHATTAN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz Basil Hayden Dark Rye bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 2 dashes Angostura bitters (and try to remember the Luxardo cherries, for garnish). Pour ingredients into a cocktail glass with ice, stir and strain into a chilled glass. A quintessential 19th-century classic fitting for anyone making the case for Adam Smith at happy hour.
THE CANADIAN TARIFF >> 2 oz Seagram’s Canadian Whisky (preferably discovered in a neighbor's basement from the 1970s), 1 oz Bulleit Bourbon, ½ oz pure maple syrup, 4 dashes orange bitters. Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker and strain over crushed ice. A “brand new cocktail” invented on the spot, Matt proves that slapping a fresh label on an Old Fashioned is true entrepreneurial innovation.
RITZ CIDER >> Equal parts chilled Champagne and apple juice, garnished with an apple slice. Pour ingredients into a glass and serve. Sourced directly from The Bar Hemingway at the Ritz Paris, this refreshing cocktail pairs perfectly with rants on the evils of capitalism run amok.

  • Ep 97 - Artificial Intelligence 2.0: No Robots Were Harmed in the Making of This Episode
    Aug 31 2026
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (The Sequel). It’s been almost a year and a half since Amanda, Chris and Matt first debated our AI future, and a lot has changed. Reconvening over two questionable cocktails “invented” by AI (as well as one utterly delightful, human-made classic), Matt takes over hosting duties as the group debates whether it’s okay to outsource a best man speech to Claude, if a populace under the spell of AI spells doom for American democracy, and whether humanity’s progress will be derailed by digital overlords. Pull up a barstool and join this classic 3Q3D conversation before the robots take over your podcast feed for good.
    DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:
THE CLEVER PROMPT >> 1½ oz bourbon, ½ oz sweet vermouth, ½ oz Campari, ½ oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur, ½ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 dash Angostura bitters. Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. With a history at least one hour old, this cocktail comes courtesy of ChatGPT and is enjoyed by robots worldwide.
SIDECAR COCKTAIL>> 2 oz Cognac, ¾ oz Cointreau, ¾ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar for the glass rim. Shake ingredients with ice, strain into a coupe rimmed with sugar. Robots will never one-up this classic Harry’s New York Bar staple from early 20th-century Paris.
THE ALGORITHM >> 1½ oz gin, ½ oz Amaro, ½ oz Orange Curaçao, ¼ oz Galliano, ½ oz fresh lemon juice, 2 dashes orange bitters, top with chilled tonic water. Combine spirits, liqueur, and citrus with ice, strain into a glass with fresh ice, and top with tonic water. Enjoy this AI-crafted cocktail while marveling at how…it reminds you of a lot of other cocktails. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Ep. 96 - Cobbling Together a 3Q3D Comeback
    Aug 25 2026
HOBBIES / PASSION PROJECTS / SIDE HUSTLES! After an unintentional hiatus, Amanda, Chris and Matt finally reunite to wonder why we let our favorite hobbies and creative side passions (like, ahem, an erstwhile podcast for inquisitive people) slip away into the black hole of busy calendars and mindless doomscrolling. Over three pretty good drinks, the trio unpacks how we can reclaim the passions that bring us real joy, the abandoned hobbies we ought to resurrect, and the pursuits that most reflect our true selves.
    DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:
SCOTCH & SODA >> 2 oz blended Scotch whiskey; 4 oz chilled club soda or sparkling water. Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in the 2 ounces of Scotch and top with chilled club soda. Stir briefly and gently to mix without losing the bubbles. Enjoy while reading a book out loud to your grandchildren.
BLACKBERRY PALOMA >> 2 oz blanco tequila; 3 oz sparkling grapefruit soda (or grapefruit juice plus club soda); 4 fresh blackberries (plus more for garnish); 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice; 1/2 oz simple syrup; salt for the glass rim. Muddle blackberries with 1/2 oz simple syrup and 1 oz lime juice in a glass. Add tequila and ice, then top with 3 oz sparkling grapefruit soda. Stir gently and garnish with extra berries and a lime wheel. Enjoy while partaking in a favorite hobby, such as cobbling shoes.
DORCHESTER COCKTAIL >> 1 1/2 oz gin; 1/2 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur; 3/4 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed; 1/2 oz grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed; 1/2 oz simple syrup. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and pick up that dusty guitar, would ya?
