  • TWR 497 - How Much Money Do You Really Need to Retire? Perfecting Your Retirement
    Oct 8 2026
Do you really need $1 million—or more—to retire comfortably? For many savers, retirement planning has focused almost entirely on accumulation: save more, invest more, and build the biggest account possible. But once retirement arrives, the question changes: How do you actually use and enjoy the money you've spent decades saving? In this episode of The Worry-Free Retirement, Tony Walker and Heather Hughes discuss the transition from accumulation to retirement-income planning and why they prefer to think in terms of income and distributions rather than “decumulation.” They examine the traditional 4% withdrawal rule, changing spending patterns during retirement, lifetime-income considerations, advisor fees and the challenge of creating an income plan designed around an individual's lifestyle.

  • TWR 496 - Rules vs Reality
    Oct 1 2026
Can retirement really be reduced to one simple rule? For decades, the 4% rule has been a familiar guideline for retirement withdrawals. But retirement involves much more than choosing a withdrawal percentage—including market performance, Social Security, required minimum distributions, taxes, different types of retirement accounts, income needs and legacy goals. In this episode of The Worry-Free Retirement, Tony Walker sits down with Heather Hughes, who is celebrating 20 years with Tony Walker Financial, to discuss an article comparing the traditional 4% withdrawal approach with full and partial annuitization. Heather describes the research discussed in the article as comparing three approaches: withdrawing according to the 4% rule, fully annuitizing retirement savings, and partially annuitizing while keeping other assets invested. According to Heather's summary of that research, the partial-annuitization approach produced the highest income in the cases studied while retaining assets that could potentially provide a legacy.

  • TWR 494 - Just Wrong Enough
    Sep 10 2026
Some of the most dangerous retirement advice isn't completely wrong. It's just wrong enough. Today, savers have access to more financial information than ever through YouTube, Google, seminars, social media and AI. But understanding part of a financial strategy can sometimes create a false sense of confidence—especially when that strategy is applied without considering the rest of the retirement plan. In this episode of The Worry-Free Retirement, Tony Walker and Trey Juergens examine several pieces of retirement advice that can sound reasonable on the surface but may create unintended consequences when applied as blanket rules. The idea came from a prospective client who had been researching financial products on his own. Tony says the man understood quite a bit—but several things he believed to be facts were only partially correct. He was, as Trey put it, “just wrong enough” that acting on the information could have created problems.

  • TWR 493 - Secrets of the 401k
    Sep 3 2026
Are you over age 59½, still working, and wondering what options you have with your 401(k)? Depending on your employer's plan rules, you may have more choices than you realize. In this episode of The Worry-Free Retirement, Tony Walker is joined by Craig Davis, Juanita Jackson, Wes Walker and Trey Juergens for a deep dive into 401(k) rollovers, in-service withdrawals, retirement taxes and the process of turning years of workplace savings into a retirement game plan. Craig explains that some employer plans may permit a non-hardship in-service withdrawal or rollover after age 59½, even while the employee continues working, contributing to the plan and receiving an employer match. But every plan is different: some may make most or all funds available, some only certain sources, and others may not permit an in-service distribution at all.

  • TWR 491 - Inside The WorryFree Retirement-CHANGE
    Aug 20 2026
How much money do you really need to retire—and how do you know when it's enough? Retirement comes with change. Your paycheck changes. Your taxes can change. Your spending changes. Your tolerance for investment risk may change. And sometimes life changes your retirement date before you're ready. In this episode of Inside the Worry-Free Retirement, Diane Williamson sits down with retirement planning specialist Tony Walker to discuss how savers can prepare for those changes—and why retirement planning is about much more than hitting a magic number in your 401(k). Tony identifies two mistakes he has repeatedly seen during his career: waiting too long to enjoy the money you've accumulated and taking more investment risk than you may be comfortable with once that money is needed to fund retirement.

  • TWR 490 - Touching Me Touching You
    Aug 13 2026
Your retirement plan shouldn't be set in stone—because your life isn't. People retire earlier than expected. They buy homes. Spending changes. A spouse dies. Family circumstances change. Tax decisions arise. Estate plans get updated. So what happens to the retirement plan? In this episode of The Worry-Free Retirement, Tony Walker and his team continue their discussion of “The Human Touch” and explain why retirement planning isn't simply about choosing investments. It's about building a plan that can evolve as your life changes. The team discusses how a centralized written game plan and shared client records allow different members of the firm to understand previous conversations and provide continuity instead of starting over every time a client speaks with someone new.
