Written and added nearly a year after the album was already in its final mix, "The Fall" was born out of Derek’s ongoing battle with the PTSD triggers tied to the fall season. Every year, as the summer fades into autumn, Derek is haunted by "Black Tuesday"—the day he received the call from his doctor confirming he had Stage 4 cancer. The imagery of Halloween and the changing season only deepened those triggers. In this episode, Derek shares how writing "The Fall" became a way to reclaim this time of year from the grip of his PTSD.
