In which I take great delight in the company of friends and the pleasures of fine food, music, and new acquisitions, whilst managing the cares and business attendant upon my service to my Lord and the affairs of the sea; daily life is enlivened by courtly visits, the Queen’s presence, honest discourse, and the comfort of home amid occasional petty quarrels and considerations of fortune. In which I take diligent note of the hours spent about the business of the Navy and the adorning of my house, whilst observing the curious antics of those at court and the weighty trials of the King's adversaries. My days are a mixture of public affairs and private cares, marked by the attendance on my Lord, the management of household mischiefs, and the somber shadow cast by recent executions and whispered intrigues.

In which I diligently attend to my Lord’s affairs and household, balancing the import of court commissions, private wagers, and the care of my home amidst news of royal illness and departure; all the while I find pleasure and vexation in commerce, company, and the ordering of both men and masonry. The passing days are marked by solemn sermons, the throng of fairs, society’s intrigues, and the constant hum of London’s multifarious engagements, even as the shadow of mourning falls upon our city.
