  • Why Shubhankar Mishra Says Theatre Matters More Than Ever Now in the Age of AI and Doomscrolling
    Apr 7 2026

Shubhankar Mishra, co-founder of Backstage Playmakers, one of India's most innovative fringe theatre groups, thinks theatre matters more than ever in the age of AI and doom-scrolling.

And he makes a compelling case for why. In this conversation, we cover:

    • Why theatre is the one creative profession AI cannot replicate
    • The case for theatre as a tool for stress relief and escape, even for those who can't afford much else
    • The shot play: Backstage Playmakers' experiment in performing a full play in one uninterrupted take, shot for the digital frame
    • Whether theatre can actually pay and what financial sustainability looks like for independent theatre makers in India today

Shubhankar is an actor, writer, and director whose work sits at the intersection of live performance and digital storytelling.

Backstage Playmakers has performed across multiple cities, including Bengaluru, and continues to push the boundaries of what theatre can be and where it can live.

This is part of an ongoing series of conversations with writers & creatives on The Read It Right.

  • Ep31: Interview w/ LA-based Dark-Pop Duo 'RAINNE' [Annie Dingwall & Justin Klunk]
    Aug 14 2021
For episode 31 of 'The Read It Right Show', it was my pleasure to interview LA-based dark-pop duo 'Rainne'. Rainne's line-up comprises of singer-songwriter Annie Dingwall & saxophonist/Engineer Justin Klunk. Rainne won the coveted opening spot for the Hollywood Bowl 2019, winning against 14,000 other artists! They opened for biggies for Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, The Jonas Brothers and more. The global pandemic proved to be a tiny bump for their music career post the exhilarating Hollywood Bowl, as touring opportunities came to an abrupt halt. They have since improvised, finding other ways to reach audiences, make music remotely before they can start touring once again. Rainne's recent single 'Spiders' received both critical acclaim and fame. In this interview, the duo talks about their music career, performing in the Hollywood Bowl, and future plans! Enjoy watching/listening. _________________________________________________________________________ 📚 Get a copy of my brand new book: https://www.amazon.in/dp/1638062870 INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/subh.dasgupta FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/subhabrata.dasgupta3 EMAIL: subhodasgupta16@gmail.com _________________________________________________________________________ Content Tags: rainne dark pop, rainne hollywood bowl 2019, rainne annie dingwall, rainne justin klunk, annie dingwall, justin klunk, rainne, rainne interview, justin klunk interview, annie dingwall interview, RAINNE monster lyrics, Psycho killer rainne, read it right show, read it right interviews, subh dasgupta, subh dasgupta interviews, rainne spiders, rainne monster, rainne psycho killer, rainne nosebleeds, rainne LA, dark pop

And then, she took a decade-long break, before totally re-inventing herself as GHOSTE in 2020 and partnering with Matt Anthony to make electro-pop music. In this interview, Jenny talks about her long-running career, working in the music industry, her rebirth as GHOSTE, and the recurring Scorpio cycle of 'Birth-Death-Rebirth'.
