"...it gave me kind of a logical way of, kind of intervening and approaching individuals, but without taking away from the emotional side of it as well"

In the Season's final The Flow episode, we are joined by Jaya Misra, a Board Certified Behavioural Analyst, supporting children who have been diagnosed with autism.

We take a different approach for this episode, as Mamta delves into a discovery conversation on how ABA - Applied Behaviour Analysis Therapy. Over the past couple of seasons, we have discovered multiple therapies, from CBT to EDMR, and today we learn something relatively new in the UK.

With a passion for psychology, Jaya's route to supporting others was a "clear" path, which led her to America to get certified and discovering ABA. As she supports children in the UK, she continues to advocate for ABA as a route to a meaningful, independent and happy lives.

"And really what it was, my parents were just desperate to reach their child."

In the season's last Focus episode, I'm joined by Stephen Shore, Professor at Adelphi University teaching autistic students for the past 14 years. With a personal childhood, and adult diagnosis (you'll find out how this happened), Stephen's love for Music led him into teaching and supporting autistic individuals with music too.

In this episode, we learn about the power of family support (again), the role of familial versus institutional support and finding ways to reach out to, and connect with someone who has an autism diagnosis.

What you will learn:

• A Regressive Autism Bomb: The 30%
• The New Form of Education
• Autism Between the Genders

The Focus: The Focus episodes welcome experts from the Neurodiversity space to share the latest facts, findings and research. It's time to cut through the noise and know what's what.

“My neurodivergence has absolutely nothing to do with my intelligence”

In this week's Flow episode, I’m joined by Onyinye Udokporo, a mind-blowing impactful woman who hasn’t even hit her 30’s yet. We delve into her personal highlights and lowlights throughout the years, starting with her diagnosis of dyslexia at 11.

We see the impact of family and institutional support of an early/childhood diagnosis. The idea that you can do it all, was instilled from childhood which meant her diagnosis didn't hold her back but just had to find new paths in life. She goes on to give back to her community through tutoring, supporting fellow young people and now navigating the working world to help THEM understand neurodiversity.
